Identify an innovative classroom
Analyse teacher roles in the classroom
1. Intended curriculum goals of the innovative practices
The goals of the innovative practices are very important and should be considered during the class preparation.Teachers should understand the goals and then make the class effectively.
According to the case we researched(CN001),the instructor confirmed the goals and then designed the curriculum, and in some extent lead the practice reach it goals effectively.
2.Pedagogical role of the teachers
Teachers are the leaders in each class. They make the goals of classes, make the schedule and design the whole curriculum. In traditional class, teachers are the centre of classes, students may accept the information teachers given but not be active during the class.
In innovative classes, teachers are the leaders, the monitors, but also the participants. They are not only teach knowledge during the class, but also communicate with students through the technology things, such as online platform, chat tools and so on. They deal with the feedback from students timely and adjust the curriculum to be suitable.
In my experience, when I applied for a language examination and joined an online class. The teacher connected with me after class by chat tool, and then made the most learning schedule for me.It was very useful.
3.Roles of the students
In traditional classes, students play passive roles. They listen to the teachers, accept the information, but most of them couldn't transform to their own knowledge effectively. However,in innovative classroom, they are not only the participants, but also the leaders. They can choice the most important information for themselves, they can connect with teachers and give feedback directly. They should do group tasks and researches actively. They join in the class from beginning to end, they should do some preparation to understand the class, and do some review to digest the information.
According to my own experience, when we do group work in traditional classroom, there always some students couldn't join the group actively , they have opinions, but have no chances to make a statement. But now we use Web 2.0 stuffs such as Google Docs,it do make the group work easily and let all group members contribute to their group task.
4.Nature and sophistication of the ICT used
In innovative classroom, more and more software should be used to support teaching and learning.Such as Google Docs,Adobe,Moodle, and other online platforms.
As I said above, Google Docs works well for group task.In addition, the forum in the Moodle is also very useful for me to get new ideas and feedback from teachers and my classmates. IMovie is a software I want to introduce, too. It is easy and interesting to use iMovie to make videos for education in the 6024 class.
5.Connectedness of the classroom
In innovative classroom, communication tools should be adequately used.Teachers and students connect with each other tightly and communicate timely. The Moodle forum I described in the point 4 is an example of this.
6.Learning outcomes exhibited by learners during learning
In traditional class, the evaluation of outcomes is very simple. But in innovative class, learning outcomes should be diversified. It should be considered into several parts, such as individual assignment, group assignment, presentation, attitude, activity and so on,but not just examinations.

Hi, Janey
ReplyDeleteIt's very good to relate the case CN001 to analyze these six dimensions. Regard to the first dimension, the goal, you said the goal should be considered during the presentation. I'm not quite agree. The goal is the first step of learning design. It should be considered in the very beginning. It' s the core of learning design and other elements are work for it. Of course, it should also be considered during the process if there are some new situations happen.
