Week 5 Group Task --- Explore curriculum in IPPUT HU Jiani (Janey)

Types of curriculum focus in IPPUT:
There are three types have been mentioned in the class last week: Single subject focus,Thematic focus and school-wide focus. As I have searched some cases through the Internet and connecting with my own study experience, I think curriculum focus in IPPUT can also have these types as below:

1. Needs or demands focus - ICT supports pedagogical practices which is suitable to individual demands. This is widely used in distant education area. Online schools which offered distant education courses design the curriculum which can suit individual learning requirement.

2. Area focus - According to the cases given in IPPUT, they also have different types according to the academic areas.ICT is used to improve the learning methodology in different areas no matter economic area or literature area.

3. object focus - ICT used to facilitate the implementation for different people. When the curriculum being designed, it should be considered in the factor of objects.

Roles of curriculum in IPPUT
It is hard to describe. As far as I can consider about, it plays roles as below:

1.Catalyst - the curriculum in IPPUT cannot stay as same as what they are now, it should keep the speed with the requirements or demands current learner will change, and suitable to the future learners. And it should keep developing with the society. It can be a catalyst towards both ICT innovation and learners while it become better and better.

2.Productor or director - as my group mate William said,"Utilisation is the final goal of all the education", curriculum in IPPUT can play as a productor or director who could lead learners to equipt with utilitarian skills, technology or knowledge.

  1. Interesting ideas about the catalyst and productor. I agree what you said that It can be a catalyst towards both ICT innovation and learners while it become better and better. The implementation of curriculum can improve the innovative practice.

    1. I'm also attracted by these 2 points put forward by Janey. ICT is the catalyst towards change, instead of determine factors. This is the main consideration of successfully integrating ICT into curriculum.

  2. I also think catalyst is a very interesting metaphor. But I have some different idea in my understanding. In my opinion, curriculum is designed by the experts depending on the policies, pedagogical goals, demand from the real society, etc. So the curriculum is parts of the outcomes for the innovative education.New policies, new ICTs,trained teachers result in the new curriculums. For me,the curriculum helps the IPPUT work normally and efficiently.
I think we just understand it from different perspectives.Still thank you for sharing.

    1. I agree with you that curriculum is parts of the outcomes for the innovative education. ICT improves the quality and teaching ways of courses content, which contain in the curriculum. By integrating ICT with curriculum, the information, knowledge and even practice skills implied in curriculum can be more reasily illustrated.

  3. There is a lot to consider from a school standpoint when new ICT initiatives are put into play.

I completely agree about integrating ICT with overall curriculum. At the end of the day, we have to face facts that ICT can no longer survive as a 'standalone' ad-hoc subject. It needs to be learnt through as many subjects as possible. To learn ICT while you learn other subjects!

The most important thing that seems to be overlooked is the COMMUNICATION among teachers and staff. Training and professional development play important roles, but they are of little use if the products of these are not followed up by teachers as time progresses.

It is communication that will help drive the initiatives, pinpoint the highs and lows, and ultimately determine success and growth.
