Using iPads in the classroom is not about just using the new technical tools,it's the thinking process goes along with the technology skills that students must use that's so important.
In this innovative classroom,students plays vary roles
1.participants：Because of the new tools－iPads，all the students are very interested in this class and active in all the class or after class activities.
2.self－learner:All students are using iPads to learn about stories and follow the development of the plot by themselves after the teacher showed how to use.Students can decide the learning plan depending on their own progress.
3.co-teacher:In the class,the teacher would tell the students about the learning objects and show them the basic operation in iPads.After that,students would use the iPads by themselves and the good users would teach the others how to operate.
I think the class is very great,students are learning the newest things which they will use a lot in their work and life."Using iPad for an assignment is really about expressing the main idea of a story and helps students use higher level thinking and skills."The technology helps students learning faster and discovers their learning interests.
Interesting analysis to the student's role in these cases. Technology do change a lot and give so many opportunities for innovative practice in education. Ipad is a great choice, it can provide so many applications for leaners and they can engage better in these kinds of user-friendly app. It's so pity that it can't be used in most of Chinese school as the education expenditure are limited.

The key is managing that so students are learning what you want them to learn, not just learning how to use the new technology. The cost of new technology is, as you say, an issues. They argue that "its low cost, smaller size, and compatibility with educational and creative apps" will make it attractive to schools. Smaller iPads for smaller hands! Also cheaper to buy and replace if its damaged.

I'd like to know have you ever heard of Nexus 7, a tablet with Android system produced by Google(http://www.google.com/nexus/7/). Its size is smaller than iPad mini, and it just cost $199. Do you think it is also a good choice for schools to buy for teaching and learning?

DeleteIn my opinion,the reasons of the success of Apple are amazing creativity and powerful technological support.Yes,android tablets have a lot of functions same as Apple's,but most of them are from Apple's in the first place.So does the educational part.Apple offers amount of apps to support education and inspire the creativity of the users.There is no doubt that Apple provides humanity designs and great hardwares.I think maybe those can explain part of your puzzles.

DeleteI agree with Abby that one reason is that the Apps in the education field in Apple Store appeared much earlier than Google Play. And I think another reason for the popularity of Apple product is the ease of use of the system. So iPad is easier for kids to use than Android tablet.
iPads do play a great role in technology-based teaching and learning.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest flaw that a lot of schools make is they assume iPads can simply be thrown at students with teachers saying "get on with it", without any clear objectives as to WHAT, HOW and WHY.
As mentioned from other comments, in addition to my own personal and professional experience, there have to be clear lesson goals and objectives by which iPads, or tablets for that matter, are utilised.
As to why Apple has the edge with 'education', I think it's all about the capital, infrastructure and vision that Apple has which is large enough to support it. All the 'others' would be lucky to have two of the three attributes, but not all three.
