Week 4 Group Task--- Analyse The Role of Student in An Innovative Classroom HUANG Luyi( Louise)

An innovative case about flipped classroom with humanized-video

Salman Khan: Let's use video to reinvent education

Introduction:

This is a TED video by Salman Khan . In this lecture he show us some ideas about how and why he created the remarkable Khan Academy, a carefully structured series of educational videos offering complete curricula in math and now, other subjects. He shows the power of interactive exercises, and calls for teachers to consider flipping the traditional classroom script--give studnets video lectures to watch at home, and do "homework" in the classroom with the teacher availbable to help.

1)Integrate Khan Academy in classroom:

Salman Khan create the Khan Academy , which is a website-based video curricula system http://www.khanacademy.org/

He encourage teachers try to use this site to reinvent education when students can learn on this website at home and do the homework in the class with the help of teachers. This idea is one kind of flipped classroom, but even more the website is based on the some humanized-videos. There are thousands of videos in different subjects like Math,Science, Finance and Economics etc. Below them there are some sub-subjects.
Besides the videos, the website also provide practices for students to do some exercise to test whether they have master the knowledge. When students stuck , they can get help from the hints, and they can review the videos correspond with the exercise. Every data about the exercise will be recorded ,you can see the report yourself and the teachers can see students' record and analyze where the student get stuck. By that teachers can choose how to tutorial them in the class.

Students get motivated and excited about working with Khan Academy. Teachers also feel Khan Academy reinvent their education. Even though students still struggling in maths ,but they are willing to engage in it and flighting for their questions.

2) The role of students:

The role of students in these case is interesting. They are have more control about their learning. They are more engage in their own study.

Watch the videos and learn
By watching the humanized videos students can learn the knowledge in a fun way. They enjoy watching the videos and they could pause it and watch it over and over again if there are something stuck. This is kind of a interactive way between technology-student and indirect interaction between teacher and students.

Practice and review learning content
There are corresponding exercise of every video for students to practices and exercises. They can test whether students have mastered the knowledge in the videos. By doing these exercises, students review and reinforce the content they just learnt and realize where they stuck . The hints and feedback are given beside the exercise, there's another kind of interaction between teacher and student. Students won't feel awkward to ask teachers for help and they can also try to figure out the answers by the hints.

Reflect on their study
One of a fantastic function of Khan Academy is it can record the data of students exercises.Teachers can get these data and determine how to make their tutorial for some students who have difficult in it. In the same time, students can see their report and reflect on their own study. They can set up their goals to work it out by watching the videos and search for more information ,or get for help

Peer tutorial
Khan encourage the peer tutorial ,students should help others and ask for help from the teachers when in the classroom time.

3) Degree of innovativeness of the case:

I think this is a revolution in education. The idea of humanized videos, flipped the classroom and one-world classroom are so brilliant. It would really change the way teachers teaching and students' learning in the future classroom. Teacher's role are more flexible ,technology is more humanization to support education.
