Identify an innovative classroom and Analyse teacher roles in the classroom
I’d like to share my experience of using Google Docs in my course 6023. I think it is one example of innovative classroom. The application allows students to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with others as well as the teacher. Google Docs helps promote group work and peer editing skills, enables students and teachers to decide exactly who can access and edit documents. Teachers can use Google Docs both to publish announcements about upcoming assignments and to monitor student progress. Students that it can help them stay organized and keep on top of their assignments. They never have to remember to save their work; it happens automatically. It's easy to collaborate online with others, even when they are in different places, and they can get feedback easily from teachers, parents, relatives and tutors, and enter updates anytime from anywhere. This innovative classroom extend teaching & learning functionality, make teacher and student fully involved, stimulate learners to use technology effectively and make whole classroom tight connected. For me, I really enjoy such kind of learning.
Depending on the 6 dimensions, I identify an innovative classroom as follows:
For the curriculum goals, students are expected to gain or experience:
- Information and corresponding technical skills
- Authentic learning contexts
- Developing Values
- Integration of ICT knowledge in course content
- using technology or computer to solve academic problems
For the teachers’ role, teachers act as:
- Monitor of students’ assignment progression
- Supporter of students’ enquiry, team building and collaborative process of students
- Co-learner interacts and communicates frequently with students
- Information transmitter
- Liaison with parties outside school
In the Case analysed (CN001, my pocket money), teachers explain information of relevant finiancial knowledge to students, give task instructions (what steps to follow to finish the project), monitor task progression with suggestions and assistances, provide support to students. the key teacher competencies of carrying out this kind of innovation were an understanding and appreciation of project-based learning. The teacher played the role of an informant. Also acted as a facilitator when the students encountered difficulties with the responsibility of ensuring that tasks runs smoothly. Teachers would evaluate both his students and himself in order to achieve improvement, and sharing the experience with other teachers was very helpful to the successful implementation of the project.

For the leaners’ role, students participate activities include:
- Electronic data gathering and processing
- Analyzing and drawing conclusion from data, by using corresponding technology
- Search for useful information through Internet
- Electronic presentation of own learning
- Engage in enquiry and collaborative task with other students via web 2.0 tools
- Peer tutoring and evaluation
- Determine own learning schedules and strategies
- Reflect on own learning,
For the ICT used, innovative classroom provide opportunities for better using applications include Word Processor (Microsoft Word), Web page/multimedia production tool (Youtube, DreamWeaver), Internet Browser and Search Engines (Google searching), Data analysis software (Excel) and Media Capture Equipment (VoiceThread, electric video).
For Classroom connectedness, innovative classroom provide online platform to connect school teachers, school staff, outside parties, the society and parents by using variety technologies. For example: online discussion forum, VoiceThread, instant message and the like.
For learning outcomes, through technology use, leaner may produce:
- E-portfolio about what they learn and reflect during the study process, collect from online forum/online discussion
- Group presentation Medias (Slideshows, videos, electric posters…)
- Productions which integrated multimedia elements (Video, animations, web page, web based publication…)
- Activities which demonstrate the application and integration of acquired skills and knowledge into new and authentic contexts
- Peer Evaluation demonstrate interaction and group communication
It's really a great idea to analyze the innovative classroom with a definite use. It made your illustration vivid and easy understand. Good job ,Carol.
